OLLIE RACES TO SAVE LIVES!
On April 11th, Ollie joined several other mascots at the Nashville Superspeedway to attend the Pepsi 300. The Governor’s Highway Safety Office had a Booze It or Lose It booth to educate adults, and Ollie the Otter was present to teach the children about seatbelt and booster seat safety. Michael Aikens, volunteer from Tennessee Technological University, and Ryan Mobbs, volunteer from TTC Murfreesboro, attended the event.
“It was a really great event to attend because NASCAR is a big advocate for safety, and that goes hand-in-hand with the purpose of our program,” said Michael Aikens, volunteer from Tennessee Technological University’s Business Media Center.
It was a great opportunity to reach a new fan base we had never gotten to interact with before. Ollie was very well received, and the children and parents loved meeting him. The superspeedway was celebrating pre-Easter festivities and Ollie got to hang out with the Easter Bunny!
Ollie walked around with the Franklin City Police for several hours talking to children and parents about keeping children safe while they ride in the car. Ollie handed out bookmarks, measuring posters, and informational newsletters to remind parents about the Tennessee state law concerning booster seats.
