OLLIE HITS A HOME RUN AT SMOKEY STADIUM

On August 30th Ollie the Otter participated in a birthday celebration for Diamond and Slugger, the mascots for the Smokies Baseball team. Children and parents were invited to come out and enjoy cake and ice cream at the stadium. Ollie handed out bookmarks and other promotional materials to remind children and parents the importance of seatbelt and booster seat safety. This was a repeat visit for Ollie, and it was an honor to be recognized by so many fans familiar with Ollie.

“This was a great opportunity to reach our target audience, which is parents with children between the ages of four and nine,” said Michael Aiken, volunteer from Tennessee Technological University’s Business Media Center.

Ollie got to interact with many other mascots including Sharkee, the Ripley’s Aquarium mascot, and 97.5 FM’s Bee, the local Knoxville radio station.
Attending this sporting event was a great way to increase awareness about Ollie the Otter in a non-traditional way. It was a high-entertainment environment in which to spread knowledge about the Tennessee booster seat law- “Under 4’9”, Booster Time!” This was also a great opportunity to add exposure to the Governor’s Highway Safety Office and our association with them that promotes children’s safety across the state of Tennessee.

The Ollie Otter Program teaches booster seat and seat belt education in elementary schools. The program provides classroom materials statewide. To contribute to the program click here for more information.
