Ollie's Tale
Tennessee
Ollie Otter is Tennessee's Booster Seat Education icon. You can find out more information about Ollie at SeatbeltVolunteer.org.
Ollie has educated thousands of children about booster seat use. Created in 2006, the Ollie Otter Booster Seat and Seat Belt Education campaign is the first statewide booster seat education program in U.S. History.
Ollie's image is protected by U.S. Federal Law and is administered by Tennessee Tech University, the Tennessee Road Builders Association- Transportation Development Foundation and the Governor's Highway Safety Office.
The campaign's original catch phrase was, "Ollie says– You Otter Buckle Up". Most recently, in 2009, it was modified to "Under 4'9" - Booster Time!" in response to a growing need to make the subject a household topic. The use of a booster seat is required by Tennessee Law until a child is 9 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall.
Despite the campaign's growing success, one of the most critical issues affecting our children's safety is the misuse or lack of use of safety belts and booster seats. Ollie's message is ever more relevant to today’s families as we travel more and have more distractions when in the vehicle.
Ollie is always looking for volunteers to help promote the campaign and spread the word: "Under 4'9" - Booster Time!"
